Balenciaga. Even the most fashion illiterate are familiar with at least the name. A pioneer in the fashion industry, he started his couture house in 1917 when he was only 22 years old. He worked until his death in 1972, leaving a huge legacy of innovative, sculptural, and high quality designs.
I’ve been lucky enough to see not one but two Balenciaga retrospectives in the past six months. The first at the Musee Bourdelle in Paris and the second at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. These are some of the photos I took at the V&A, which include original designs by Balenciaga and his house as well as designs by people who have been influenced by the man himself. Scroll to see some true artistry.
