Hello lovelies! As many of you who read this blog can probably tell, I’m not too great at makeup. On top of never putting in the effort to learn how to properly put it on, I’m also pretty allergic to a lot of it. I have really sensitive skin, which means that most eye makeup is out of the question. On top of that, my mom and grandmother never wore/wear a lot of makeup so I’ve never been around it.
Because I don’t do a lot of makeup, I really really concentrate on my skin and making sure that I take care of it. While I do have a prescribed face wash from my dermatologist that I use daily, any other aspects are up to me. So moisturizers, masks, serums, all that good stuff, I get to decide myself. So, here’s a little peek into what I use!
At its base, I use 3 things each time I wash my face: a wash, a serum, and a moisturizer. But, day and night I use different concoctions of each of the three.
I start my day by washing my face with my usual cleanser. It’s a sulfur based cleanser prescribed by my doctor that I leave on for about 3-5 minutes. I wash it off and then I pat my face dry.
After that, I usually apply a day serum. This one from Yves Rocher is one of my favorites, and it includes SPF which is super important to wear even on cloudy days. I couldn’t find the plain serum so this is the BB cream, but it still works in much the same way.
After that is a day moisturizer. I have two choices, one oil based and one water based. For my water based option, I use Yves Rocher. It’s very moisturizing and contains SPF as well, so it works as an extra barrier. For an oil based day moisturizer, I like the EUK 134 0.1% antioxidant formula from The Ordinary. This formula is meant to be a barrier between your skin and the world, keeping out all of the toxins from pollution that you might encounter during the day.
Same as in the morning, I wash my face with my dermatologist prescribed sulfur cleanser. After, I of course apply a serum! For water based treatments, I love this one from Yves Rocher. When used in tandem with this moisturizer after it’s a winning combo!
For oil based treatments, sometimes you can combine moisturizer and serum all in one! The oils from The ordinary are fabulous. I switch out which one I use on the regular, choosing a different one pretty much every day, but my favorite is probably the marula oil.
Applying treatments to my eyes is super important because I have really evident under eye circles. I love the water based option from Neutrogena, it singlehandedly helped my eyes recover from a really bad reaction to eyeshadow a few years ago. I also love the caffeine solution from The Ordinary. The caffeine in the solution really helps to give your eyes a healthy boost.
I exfoliant 1-2 times per week, replacing my normal cleanser with an exfoliant in my night routine. My absolute favorite exfoliant is the 7 Day Scrub Cream by Clinique. This formula really helps get rid of the dead skin that might be lingering on your face, and also gives you a nice clean but not raw feeling when all is said and done.
So there you have it! As you can see, I take my skincare very seriously! While these are just the guidelines that I tend to follow, please keep in mind that everyone’s skin is different. If you’re looking for some help in terms of what you should be doing for your skin type, The Ordinary has some super helpful resources on their site. Happy cleansing!
